SUGARPASTE CAKE: A DECORATED CELEBRATION CAKE FOR AN AUTUMN WEDDING.

The cake should:

  • have a maximum board size of 46cm (18”)” and fit within an 51 cm( 20”square)
  • have at least two flavours
  • be covered with sugarpaste

Decorative work may include Royal icing; Sugarpaste; Pastillage; Flower Paste; hand- made sugar flowers, or hand- made, wired flowers; or any other edible medium.

The cake may be stacked, placed on display stands, or on pillars

The cake will be cut and tasted.

The following criteria will be used to judge;

Sugarpaste Cake:

  • Does the exhibit meet the schedule?
  • Use of techniques/creativity
  • Balance, proportion and colour
  • Coating quality(smoothness/cracking/air bubbles/hand marks etc)
  • Overall decoration( piping/linework/lacework/d
  • Side designs etc)
  • Feature decoration (top piece/models/runouts/flowers etc)
  • Taste flavour
  • Texture

Assessment

Please use this page to confirm you wish one of our qualified independent Assessors to call round and review your Baking . The entry Fee this year is £75 and has to be paid in advance. For this fee you will have a qualified Assessment carried out and a copy of this will be left with you on the day . If you pass our guidelines then you will be given your SBA on the day. Your review will then go live on our website . Our website currently attracts around 15, 000 Hits a day and is a fantastic Advertising /Marketing tool for you . You will also be in with the chance of becoming one of our Finalists for this years Scottish Baking Awards at Mar Hall in 28th September 2014.

If you are one of our finalists your entry fee to mar hall is waived. Melanie Andrews assesses all SBA winners and finalists. the finalists for Mar Hall will be chosen from all the SBA winners from the relevant award period
